Fashola Charged LASU on Ways to fund Research Fair as VC Narrates Values of Research

The Lagos State University, Ojo played host to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Works and Housing and former visitor to the University, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Lagos State Special Adviser on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Adebayo Ninalowo, and other dignitaries at the 1st LASU Research Fair held today.

The Research Fair is aimed at driving National Development through Research and Innovation at the Aderemi Makanjuola Hall in the University campus.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun and his team had upon assumption of office consistently been on the watch for ways to metamorphose LASU into a balanced University, one where teaching, research and community service grow hand-in-hand.

Fagbohun, while welcoming the dignitaries, said:
LASU has continued to transform and make great impact in the immediate environment and the wider society. We are today making our First research fair and that is why I say history is being made.
Research remains the catalyst and veritable tool for national development. 
He concluded saying:
To this end, we seek to endow the LASU Research Grant Fund. The Fund will be the incubator and facilitator for Research in our University.
The Special Adviser on Education, Tokunbo Wahab noted that the place of research in the present century cannot be over emphasised.

In his words:
business research and innovation contribute significantly to the growth if business and enterprises. Lagos is also moving from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-based one. 
He then charged the University to proffer solutions to the six pillars of the government's development agenda.

The Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, noted that the Badagry Expressway which was built in the 1970s during the oil boom is receiving attention from the government and three contractors are awarded on fast tracking the work on the route.

Fashola then charged the varsity on ways to fund the research fair recommending the endowment of professional chairs and that the varsity compile a comprehensive list of her alumni to leverage on their strengths.

The event also saw the Lagos State University Students' Union, LASUSU, President, Mr Olawale Oladele making a presentation to the Honourable Minister.
