A Nigerian, Manzurah Abdulazeez, has been awarded $86,000 after developing anticancer agent from plants in Kaduna.
The grant was given to her by the Spanish government under the Science by Women Fellowship to further her research.
She was also a visiting scholar in Chiang Mai University in Thailand and a graduate of Biochemistry at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and got her PhD studying antihypertensive and anticancer.
She revealed that African plants have enormous and largely unstudied anticancer potential and is used by local healers mostly.
